Do you ever find yourself going around in circles?

Even if you’re a gem of a consultant, even if you’re a whiz at planning and mapping out strategies for your clients, you may still feel that you’re not making much headway in your business, or that you keep repeating frustrating patterns.

Why not get out and practice actually walking in circles, then?

What? It makes no sense?

It does if you know anything about Baguazhang (Eight Trigram Palm) circle walking. Baguazhang is one of the youngest traditional martial arts of China, with its roots in the philosophy of Taoism.

One of the hallmarks of Baguazhang is walking in circles. But it’s not just plain walking. Your arms are poised to defend or to strike; your knees are bent; your body is aligned in a way that opens and encourages the flow of “Qi” (life force, pronounced “chi”) through your body’s meridians—energy pathways used by acupuncturists.

Practitioners walk in circles hundreds of times. The purpose is not to drive yourself crazy, but to cultivate health and well being. By diligently practicing circle-walking, you can develop greater strength, stamina, patience, serenity, and mental focus—all qualities that will give you the competitive edge you need to be a top-notch consultant.

So if life has you walking in circles, do something different—walk in circles! Change your perspective. Try a class in Baguazhang—or something else completely outside your normal sphere of activity.
